Name: Sophie Crawford
Sophie trained at the Guildhall School of Music (BMus) and Royal College of Music (Mperf with distinction) and is now enjoying an exciting and varied freelance career. As a player, she held the position of bassoonist with Southbank Sinfonia 10, has freelanced across the UK including a number of guest appearances with the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and is a keen and active chamber musician, interested in using the bassoon to connect with music from many different genres and cultures.
Alongside her teaching, Sophie is an enthusiastic and supportive peripatetic teacher, and an active and passionate education and outreach musician. With Live Music Now! and Drake Music, London (among other organisations) she has worked as musician-in-residence in a number of school settings with children with SEN (special educational needs). This work has had a profound impact on Sophie, and she is currently training on the part-time Music Therapy course at Roehampton University to explore further music’s therapeutic benefits.
